Woman gives birth in Guayaquil airport bathroom
A woman who works in the cafeteria at the José Joaquín de Olmedo airport in Guayaquil went into labour in the airport bathroom this morning.
Twenty-one year-old Magdalena Zambrano was carrying twins. The first girl was born in the bathroom, and the second girl was born in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.
Tania Caicedo, a bystander, was there and says she helped the young woman, even though it meant missing her flight.
"She was out of control and nervous ... I live in Miami and teach first aid, so I helped the patient and a female doctor was also there to help with the birth. The first baby was born and another one was on the way."
The new mother and her daughters are under observation at the Enrique Sotomayor maternity ward.
