OAS team will evaluate Ecuador’s electoral system
Ecuador’s National Elections Council is seeking international certification of their work.
Council member Juan Pablo Pozo met with Organization of American States (OAS) representatives yesterday to discuss getting ISO 17582 certification: “Quality management systems for electoral bodies.”
In 2006, OAS members asked the organization to get involved in quality control for elections systems. Since then, the OAS has provided technical assistance and ISO certification to countries that request it.
Ecuadors election council president, Domingo Paredes, said that the OAS will evaluate his entity’s every operation, including but not limited to: vote collection, results handling, quick count systems, electronic voting, organization, and political participation.
The council is preparing for Ecuador’s next sectional elections, set for early 2014.
