Police say theyve arrested three Ecuadorians and three Indians as part of an investigation into a human trafficking operation. The ring allegedly transported people from India and Sri Lanka, through Guayaquils port and airport toward destinations in the United States.
The smugglers charged $5,000 a head and put up their clients at Guayaquil hotels until they could be smuggled into the States.
Two if the Ecuadorians allegedly involved in the gang were customs officers. The leader of the gang is thought to be the Indian citizen Navtej Kumar, alias "Lucky."
Police confiscated $94,000, rupees, a vehicle, laptops, cell phones and six "Andean migration card" entry stubs.
